Assignment #1; Multimedia Story DRAFT

For my multimedia story I want to explore the more unassuming places of Victoria. Victoria is insanely beautiful and there is plenty to see but I often and very interested in the architecture and odd design choices all over Victoria. I have a car and I intent to drive all around Victoria and capture photos and videos of the most visually interesting places. I will likely use my phone, my digital camera as well as a notebook, pencils and oil pastels.

I want to shape my story on what has been around and how that has/hasn’t adapted to the modern day age, how taste and design moves through time. I want to create a comic walking through the city and suburbans, illustrating with a comedic undertone of interactions we may encounter and the challenges we may face.

Media I want to try out in my story are:

  • Photos/imagery
  • Videos/gifs
  • Drawings and rough sketches
  • Illustrations & text

To align with Mayer’s Principles of Multimedia Learning, I want to make sure the media works together clearly rather than becoming overwhelming. I will use the coherence principle by only including images, sketches, and videos that support the main story of strange or overlooked design in Victoria. The contiguity principle will be important because I want text and images to appear close together, especially in comic panels, so the viewer understands what detail I am commenting on. I will also use the multimedia principle by combining visuals and words together rather than relying only on written explanation.
